Simon Chan,
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Simon earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, widely regarded as the best physical therapy program in the United States. He brings a deep-rooted passion for movement, performance, and patient care to the team. A lifelong athlete, Simon grew up playing baseball and went on to compete in both basketball and tennis throughout high school, giving him firsthand insight into the physical and mental resilience required to perform at a high level.
Simon’s clinical philosophy is strictly patient-centered, prioritizing the unique goals of each individual to ensure they return to the activities and hobbies they love with minimal pain. Simon is passionate about helping clients regain their confidence—mentally, physically, and emotionally—by bridging the gap between traditional rehab and functional strength training.
When he’s not in the clinic, Simon stays active through weightlifting, basketball adult leagues, and the occasional game of pickleball. He also enjoys the technical craft of cutting hair, exploring his interests in design, and socializing over wine-tastings with friends.
Mariel Schofield,
Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
Mariel achieved her B.S. in Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine while participating as a varsity-level athlete at the University of Miami. Mariel continued on to receive her doctorate at the same school. Mariel honed her clinical skills by treating a wide variety of sports and orthopedic cases ranging from the acute, post-operative conditions to elite-level performance across all skill levels and age groups.
Mariel serves to facilitate positive change through a hybrid approach integrating principles of rehabilitation and strength and conditioning. Her philosophy is to help individuals create a positive environment for health by adhering to fundamental and controllable behaviors. This includes meeting physical activity guidelines, eating well, staying hydrated, getting sufficient sleep, and having strong social support.
Mariel enjoys traveling the world, eating at new restaurants, spending time with her French Bulldog, playing volleyball, volunteering at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, lifting weights, and hosting education and community-building events.
Matt (Roo) Reichard,
Doctor of Physical Therapy, Private Therapist on ATP Tour
Matt served as a private Doctor of Physical Therapy for a professional tennis player on the ATP Tour, supporting elite performances at a Grand Slam and multiple Masters 1000 and 500 tournaments. By refining movement strategies during matches, practices, and training, Matt ensured his athlete could consistently perform against the world's best.
Matt integrates a biomechanical and neuromuscular approach into his treatment methodology. He deconstructs movement dysfunction by systematically identifying and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to discomfort, pain, and functional limitations. He seeks to provide both immediate and long-term relief by equipping clients with strategies to put them in the driver’s seat. Matt draws on an extensive background in manual therapy and neuromotor training acquired at the University of St. Augustine. During his studies, he enhanced his expertise by participating in continuing education courses taught by authors and esteemed figures in orthopedic physical therapy. This diverse foundation enables him to tailor treatment plans to each client's unique needs.
Outside the realm of rehabilitation, Matt participates in basketball, golf, swimming, and sand sports. He also enjoys spending quality time with family and friends at concerts, shows, and sporting events.
Austin Shutler,
Doctor of Physical Therapy, Yoga Instructor
Austin takes a holistic, integrative approach to rehab and performance. Drawing from a deep passion for longevity, breathwork, and movement awareness, Austin works to help individuals reconnect with the intelligence of their body, mind, and spirit to optimize vitality.
Originally from small-town Ohio, Austin earned his B.S. in Health and Exercise Science and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Findlay, where he also played collegiate football for over three years. With a lifelong background in athletics—ranging from football, basketball, baseball, and track to current practices like climbing, running, lifting, yoga, and surfing—Austin brings firsthand knowledge of performance, injury prevention, and the power of movement as medicine.
Austin embarked on a journey as a traveling physical therapist, visiting over 20 national parks while treating diverse patient populations across the country. He eventually settled in San Diego, where he now combines his clinical expertise with his training as a yoga instructor.
Austin specializes in comprehensive body assessments and integrative care, addressing not just isolated injuries but also the interconnected systems. He helps clients build nervous system regulation and return to doing what they love with less pain and improved awareness.

Austin is author of the #1 Bestselling book, The Winning Wellness Method. With over a decade of experience in healthcare, Austin has dedicated his career to helping people lose weight, overcome pain, and regain their fitness, especially after an injury. He first discovered his passion for health and fitness in 2011, when he earned his personal training certification through the American Council on Exercise. He has since expanded his expertise as a certified strength and conditioning coach, blending movement, nutrition, and wellness to guide his clients to healthier, happier lives. Austin believes in holistic care, focusing on how the right foods and environments can help the body heal itself. He has extensive experience treating orthopedic conditions, such as shoulder, knee, back, and hip pain, as well as post-operative rehabilitation for surgeries like rotator cuff repairs and joint replacements.
Beyond his professional life, Austin loves cooking, traveling, exploring new places, spending time with his family, and staying active.
David Kim,
Founder of Hyena Rehab, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Co-founder of Vetted Pros
David participated as an athlete at Peak Performance Project under Dr. Marcus Elliot, a Harvard-trained physician applying sports science in the care of professional athletes. He is a former baseball player and powerlifting competitor with a 0.385 batting average for UCLA’s club baseball team and 600-pound competition deadlift. He understands the crucial role physical therapy plays in performance, as he has personal experience rehabbing a fractured tibia.
David incorporates corrective exercises, neuromuscular re-education, and progressive overload to help his clients tackle chronic pain and achieve a high level of performance. David’s clinical experience lies in the orthopedic setting ranging from patients with total knee replacements and rotator cuff repairs to professional athletes with long-standing injuries. Instead of administering palliative solutions to the site of symptoms, David seeks to address the root causes. He has an online presence (@DoctorDPK) that he uses to help the wider community pursue biomechanically-balanced lives.
Outside of Hyena, David frequents rock climbing gyms, surfs, and finds himself getting lost on runs with his dog on new terrains.
Adrian Pastolero,
Patient Care Coordinator
Adrian brings a unique blend of clinical, research, and athletic experience to Hyena Rehab. Originally from Long Island, New York, he graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Psychology. He previously worked as a clinical and research assistant at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Ear, Nose, and Throat department, where he helped investigate pediatric genetic hearing loss. During college, he also conducted research at a biotech company called Caraway Therapeutics and completed an internship at Bristol Myers-Squibb, contributing to work in CAR T-cell therapy. Adrian is also passionate about giving back and volunteered with Community Servings in Jamaica Plain, Boston, helping prepare and deliver nutritious meals to individuals facing serious illness.
A former high school football, tennis, and bowling athlete, Adrian has a lifelong passion for health, performance, and helping people feel their best. His competitive edge shows—he boasts a highest bowling score of 258 and a career average of 193. He plans to pursue certifications in personal training and dietetics in the future, continuing his journey in the world of fitness and wellness.
Outside the clinic, Adrian is a big fan of Pokémon, enjoys playing volleyball, and loves to bake. You’ll often find him bringing positive energy, attention to detail, and genuine care to every patient interaction.
